William Grant Foundation

As a family-owned business founded in 1887, William Grant & Sons has always taken a long-term view to support its people, its communities and its business. The company has long given to a wide range of non-profit and charitable organisations and projects across Scotland and sets aside 1% of pre-tax profits each year to support charitable causes.

Our family shareholders established the William Grant Foundation in 2014 as a non-profit association to oversee and direct our donations. The William Grant Foundation is committed to a future where everyone in Scotland has the opportunity to thrive, a belief that is deeply rooted in the core values shared by the family and the company.

The Foundation aims to:

  • Ensure greater opportunities for those who are disadvantaged
  • Strengthen the local communities in which the company operates
  • Improve Scotland’s natural and built environment
  • Sustain the unique culture and heritage of Scotland

The Foundation also seeks to support charitable initiatives by company employees wherever they are in the world. Scotland has a proud history of philanthropy. Being funded by a Scotland-based company, the Foundation wishes to encourage the energy and motivation that exists amongst the company’s employees to support the causes they care about.

With the exception of its Local Giving scheme (see below), the Foundation takes a pro-active and structured approach to giving in pursuit of its aims and does not invite unsolicited applications. Instead it is working with stakeholders to identify and research suitable projects and organisations to support, building on existing relationships and networks.

Supporting our local communities

The Foundation provides funds to each William Grant & Sons company location in the UK for distribution locally. We call this Local Giving. Donations are made at the discretion of employees at each site to support good causes in their own communities, either with cash grants or William Grant & Sons products for use in fundraising. Cash grants rarely exceed £1,000 (or equivalent).

If you wish to request such a donation, please provide as much of the following information as possible by email to foundation@wgrant.com

  • Please state which William Grant & Sons location you are applying to. (We prioritise requests where the benefit will be felt within a
reasonable travel-to-work distance of our sites, i.e. the communities where our employees live.)
  • Your name and contact details, including phone and email
  • Name and contact details of the organisation applying – or which you are raising funds for – including charity registration number or
    equivalent, if applicable
  • What the organisation does, who it works with and where
  • How we can help and how the requested donation will be used, including dates and details of any specific event or project
  • What difference the proposed activity will make and how many people will benefit
  • If people will pay to benefit or attend
  • If you are organising a fundraising event, how much is it expected to raise?
  • What else are you doing to raise funds or donations?

Please note that some sites make decisions regarding cash donations only once or twice each year. Requests for product will usually be considered on a rolling basis, but please apply as far in advance as possible and no less than two weeks before the donation is required. Product donations must be collected from our premises.
