We’re backing the Kiltwalk!

Strategic grants

To help more charities engage their supporters and raise much-needed funds.

William Grant Foundation

  • Kiltwalk is Scotland’s largest mass participation fundraising event.
  • Participants have raised almost £50 million to date, for over 3,750 charities.
  • This year’s Kiltwalk will be bigger than ever, with walks taking place in four cities during 2025.
  • Our support is helping keep entry fees low so more walkers can raise much-needed funds for their chosen charities.

At the William Grant Foundation, we know that charities need more help than ever just now to raise funds, and that many of them need more people to volunteer and get involved with their work.

The Kiltwalk is a great way for any charity to engage supporters, inspire them about their cause and have them raise money in a safe, fun way. Kiltwalk also gets people active and enjoying the environment in our beautiful cities.

Kiltwalk is Scotland’s largest mass participation walking event with over 178,000 people taking part since 2016.

To date, walkers have already raised £49.6 million, benefiting 3,750 Scottish charities.

The Kiltwalk fundraising model ensures all money raised by walkers (plus Gift Aid) goes to their chosen charities. That’s because the costs of staging and promoting the events are underwritten by the Hunter Foundation and generous sponsors.

This year, we’re getting alongside the Hunter Foundation in providing core funding to ensure the Kiltwalk events continue to provide a high quality accessible opportunity for walkers of all ages, with entry fees capped at a maximum of £20 per person.

This year’s Kiltwalk will take place on the following dates, each offering a choice of routes and distances:

  • Glasgow – 26 & 27 April
  • Aberdeen – 1 June
  • Dundee – 17 August
  • Edinburgh – 14 September

Due to the Glasgow Kiltwalk selling out in recent years, organisers are adding an extra 14-mile Big Stroll from Clydebank to Balloch on Saturday 26 April to meet demand.

Our vision is of a Scotland where everyone has the opportunity to thrive, and we make grants to charities working across causes ranging from the environment, arts and heritage to young people, families and health.

The Foundation is ten years old in 2025, and we’ve supported hundreds of charities to date, but we can only support so many at a time, so in this milestone year we’re pleased to be supporting this event that’s open to all charities to benefit from – over 1600 charities benefited from the Kiltwalk in 2024!

The William Grant Foundation also provides funds to match the charitable efforts of employees at William Grant & Sons. The Kiltwalk provides a great platform for our colleagues to get involved – as walkers or volunteers – so they can raise money for the charities that matter to them, with our Matched Giving scheme doubling the total.
